GREEN ARCHITECTURE
The “Green House effect” is an issue that worries most of today’s society.
Each day, there are less trees in the forests due to poor amount of
recycling, less free wildlife in their habitats due to new constructions , or
air pollution is higher due to factories.
Architecture is an important factor which affect world's polution and which could be reduced. Architects tend to look back to the past when having to design a new
construction. They assess what has worked and what has not from
different buildings, and apply this to their projects. Architects use design
ideas from the past centuries which have worked positively and apply this
to their project in a more modern way. For example, Theo Van Doesburg thought that architecture should be functional towards the future users, therefore, this must be done with sensibility towards the users to have closer approach to their needs. Theo Van Doesburg works with sensibility towards future architecture.
One of the main objectives of
architects in this case is make the building they are designing more
“environmentally friendly”. In other words, this is to design the building in
a way so that it needs the minimum amount of electric energy to have the
better comfort. This may be done in many ways, such as varying the size
of windows, using good isolation materials or choosing the best envelope
for the building. During their design, architects work with models; these
give them opportunity to predict errors and to change them before the
final design. It is a way to bring to reality what is
going to be constructed.
Furthermore, Adolf Loos thinks about the architecture and discovers that the new construction doesn't have to stand out of nature, it has to work with it. He thinks that architecture should not work together with ornament, for him, architecture and ornaments are two different concepts. According to Adolf Loos we should not mix the concept of architecture with art.
He progresses the architecture towards simple shapes and figures moving away from ornaments on the exterior facades. Architecture should be functional and comortable, all ornaments are just a wate of time (and energy).
Finaly, as aconclusion, architecture and its architects try to work in a functional way, working with models and elements which can avoid bigg errors being comitted. They all work towards the future but keeping in mind what worked well in the past and avoiding the use of elements such as ornaments which can be a waste of innecesary elements. They are all functional.
