A discussion established during our exercises in class is the evolution of the industrialization, and how this affects architecture as it is known. With industrialization come new ideas of building, such as the prefabrication and the mass production. This theme was discussed by Ramon Araujo, who talked about the industrialization of spaces and the industrialization of elements. Earlier, Le Corbusier also approached this subject.
With the arrival of industrialization, and the period that this relates to, the needs and way of understanding things of the population changes. Therefore a new way of designing should be adopted. As the previous parameters no longer answer to our needs.
Mass production and prefabricated elements make its way through the industry. Therefore there are two different conceptions of the concept of prefabrication.
We find prefabricated elements, mass produced, that are brought to site and assembled there. The space is designed and we order the pieces that suit its construction. We could say that it is also a matter of economy, and business as the manufacturers create a stock of elements on demand, and its production is not subjected to the exact moment when they are demanded.
Another concept that emerged with prefabrication was the one of Prefabricated Spaces. The design itself could be considered an element, built away from the site and brought to it just to be settled.
